Come see if you have similar SQL performance issues and get the instructions on how to fix them. Issues discussed include non-optimal index design, access paths gone wild, Stage 2 predicates, misuse of SQL, excessive sorting, delayed filtering, lack of implementation of powerful new SQL features.
Practical Options and Trade-Offs for Database Availability

Advance Features in DB2 for z/OS: Spatial Support and OmniFind Text Search
Frank Butt, IBM
This session will examine 2 new features of DB2 for z/OS and several customer related examples. 1. Spatial Support allows application to query location information stored in DB2. For example, find all the restaurants within 1 mile of my current location. GPS and map related questions can now be answered by using a spatial query against DB2. 2. OmniFind Text Search allows applications to perform free-form text search rapidly by utilizing text search indexes. Applications no longer need to use the LIKE predicate for search large volume of structure and unstructured text data in various formats.
DB2 pureScale Deep Dive and Live Demonstration
Brian Olynyk, IBM
Brian will walk you through a deep technical dive and live demonstration of DB2's latest high availability and scalability solution, DB2 pureScale. After explaining the clustering technologies at the heart of DB2 pureScale, Brian will demonstrate how it can easily scale through multiple members in a DB2 pureScale cluster. He will demonstrate how it can recover from hard and soft member failures and how DB2 pureScale keeps running even when the cluster coordinator software is shutdown.

DB2 10 for z/OS DBA Improvements
Mark Rader, IBM
DB2 10 for z/OS offers a number of features that will affect DBAs in the product focus areas, such as Performance, Availability, Reliability, etc.. In addition, DB2 10 for z/OS includes DBA-specific features to improve DBA productivity. This presentation will address both areas to prepare those in the audience for the exciting new release of DB2 for z/OS.
DB2 Health Advisor Service
Alex Abrashkevich, IBM
Analysis of DB2 PMR data shows that approximately 20% of outages could have been avoided had obvious warning signs been detected and acted upon. Already available in DB2 v9.7 FP1, v9.5 FP6 and v9.1 FP9, the new DB2 Health Advisor is a free early warning detection service that will help alert customers to potential problems before they become outages. It is a proactive/reactive support SaaS (software as a service) technology that is non-intrusive and utilizes up to date analytics from subject matter experts across DB2. The main goal of the service is to leverage the expertise and knowledge back at IBM to productively avoid problems, reduce the bar of adoption, lower total cost of ownership and return on investment when using DB2. It is based on DB2 best practices, recommendations from DB2 subject matter experts and customer knowledge database. DB2 Health Advisor architecture and main components (data collector, analysis engine and reporting engine) built using the latest IBM technology (Cognos, CEP, DWE, etc.) are presented. Usage scenarios for the service are explained in details. Intended usage, business and technical value of the DB2 Health Advisor Service for DB2 customers are discussed.
