Gopal Krishnans, Senior Software Engineer, IBM Silicon Valley Lab This presentation will provide an overview of DB2 for z/OS Stored Procedures and discuss the ease of development, portability, and performance of the most commonly used Stored Procedures application programming interfaces (APIs) such as COBOL, SQLJ, and DB2 9 support for native SQL procedure language. Other advantages of Java and SQL procedure language will be discussed including their richer application development tools as well as their ability to leverage zIIP and zAAP specialty engines. The pros and cons of each API regarding the ease of development, portability and performance will be discussed.
Mladen Kovacev, DB2 LUW Contuning Engineering, IBM Abstract: DB2 9.5 is the next generation hybrid XML/relational data server, boasting several new enhancements such as integrated workload manager (WLM), a threaded engine, simplified tuning, integrated audit and security, identity assertion and much more. All this at your finger tips, but how to get there? The DB2 9.5 Upgrade presentation will show how easy it is to upgrade existing databases to this new release, and will provide numerous hints and tips to ensure the upgrade process goes as smoothly as possible.
This session will provide a quick IMS history and current statistics, a look at today’s Business & IT challenges, followed by a perspective on the innovative technologies that can help extend the business value of your existing IMS systems and applications.

Leveraging zIIP and zAAP Specialty Engines with DB2 for z/OS Gopal Krishnans, IBM An overview of zIIP and zAAP and how some DB2 for z/OS V8 and DB2 9 for z/OS workloads may leverage zIIP to provide a cost effective System z platform solutions will be presented. Details on how DB2 for z/OS distributed TCP/IP DRDA applications, XML processing, complex parallel queries and DB2 Utilities can benefit from zIIP will be discussed . How DB2 XML processing can benefit from zIIP and zAAP will also be presented. The process of monitoring zIIP and zAAP usage projections and actual usage will be presented using sample RMF workload activity reports and Omegamon DB2 Performance Expert reports.
Green IT with DB2 LUW: Five Essential Steps for Maximum Success Scott Hayes, President 7 CEO, DBI Abstract: Rising energy costs are causing every organization to search for ways to cut energy costs while delivering greater value and business performance to stake holders. DB2 is the centerpiece for your green success if you take the right steps. This presentation will explore DB2 LUW in a consolidated virtual server world and cover storage considerations along with compression. Five essential steps to success will be revealed, along with tips and best practices for maximum success. Saving the planet, lowering cooling and energy costs, and improving business performance - financial and productivity - is easy with DB2 if you follow the right roadmap

Introduction to IBM Data Web Services Paul C. Zikopoulos, BA, MBA, Program Director for the DB2 Evangelist team at IBM In this session we're going to give you the 101 on Web Services. Many application development shops are trending towards the loosely coupled architecture of SOA and with the advent of Web 2.0 technologies everyone could use a level-set scoop on how XSLT, XML, SOAP, AJAX, REST, SOA, WS*, JSON and any other service oriented acronym ties together. Furthermore, it's good that we all have a common understanding on what SOA is. If you thought it was a technology or a product - that's the point. SOA is a methodology, a thought process if you will. After a base understanding, this session will show you how the IBM data server family accelerates and simplifies the journey to SOA through the all new cross platform IBM Data Web Services framework and IBM Data Studio. Getting your architecture to SOA is but a few clicks away and one lucky attendee will get the showcase their new found SOA skills in a live demo. Did I mention I don't really care what back-end data store you using: z/OS, i, or LUW we need them all.
Empowing DBAs with Data Studio Deb Jensen, Product Manager, IBM Abstract: If you thought Data Studio was just for developers, you thought wrong. Data Studio v2.1 is unveiling new technology aimed at the database administrator (DBA). Learn how you can now use the latest IBM technology to manage complex database changes within your organization. Not only will Data Studio help with database administration, but it can help you quickly diagnose availability and performance issues using an intuitive drill-down approach for immediate root-cause analysis. Best of all, Data Studio allows you to work more closely with your data architects and developers.

Introducing pureXML, IBM’s XML solution for DB2 B.L.”Tink” Tysor of Bayard Lee Tysor, Inc. Extendable Markup Language (XML) has become a standard for exchanging data in most all industries. It’s flexible and self describing syntax make it a popular mechanism for passing data between diverse applications and systems. With Version 9, DB2 now stores XML natively (pureXML) in both the z/OS and LUW platforms. If pureXML is going to be used in your shop, it is imperative that Application Developers and Database Administrators learn how to efficiently process XML data. This presentation will introduce you to not only the basics of XML, but to efficiently considerations of using pureXML to define, store and retrieve XML data. This presentations is for both Application Developers and Database Administrators. pureXML is available on both the DB2 z/OS and LUW platforms, and the differences will be covered.
Securing Data with DB2 Features Deb Jensen, Product Manager, IBM Regulatory compliance and risk management require sensitive data be secured. With application performance and business processes paramount, application owners, database administrators and security teams are struggling to secure and protect their business data without disrupting the business. This presentation provides an overview of common challenges when securing applications and databases and presents real-world solutions using IBM DB2 features.
IMS and Web 2.0, David Tran, IBM This presentation will cover the IMS Web 2.0 solution including a demo of transforming an IMS transaction into a feed and building a Web Mashup.
